Gearbox fault diagnosis using torsional vibration

This research was carried out in cooperation with the research and development department of Isfahan's Mobarake Steel Company. The purpose of this project is to show the advantage of using torsional vibration compared to transverse vibration in condition monitoring of rotating equipment. Transverse vibration refers to conventional measurement methods using an accelerometer installed on the fixed part of the rotating machine, while torsional vibration is measured by installing a sensor on the input or output shaft of the rotating system. The stability of the vibration transmission path from the vibration source to the sensor location, which avoids the creation of additional amplitude modulation and thus the complexity of the signal spectrum, is the most important advantage of using the torsional vibration measurement method. The focus of this research has been the detection of defects in the gear, which has led to the construction of a laboratory set to verify the results of the simulation.
